horse

horse

I built this horse on the beach here in Santa Barbara a little while ago. It is 100% driftwood with a few pieces of seaweed used as rope to hold things together. The project took about 2 hours and shortly into it I realized that I had picked a bad spot. There was a rotting, dead seal lying on the beach not far from the site. When wood started to be sparse right around where I started building and I had to travel further down the beach the stench of the seal was unbearable. I had to hold my breath while pulling seven foot branches out of the sand.

I went down to LA today to pick up two pieces I got mounted at Fine Art Solutions. They’ll be displayed in a show at Gallery Skart in Santa Monica starting at the end of March. The images got sandwiched, with aluminum as backing and non-reflective acrylic on top. Looks pretty good!

surfer at Deveraux in Santa Barbara

I don’t shoot a lot of surfing at all but I thought this interpretation of the recent swell here on the Central Coast is pretty nice. I was sitting on top of a cliff with a loooong lens and watched as the girls and guys below me were catching some really nice waves.
