"I took this photograph a few days after a drunk teenager drove off the road high up in the mountains at this very spot killing two passengers and ruining his life. I couldn't wrap my head around how this kid's life was altered in one day. Woke up one morning, on track to go to college, woke up the next morning handcuffed to a hospital bed with two of his friends dead because of him. Hardcore.⁠ Back then that story consumed me so much I couldn't sleep. I had to go up there and take this photo to get it out of my system. It was a perfect example of how creating an artwork can (should) act as a channel to communicate the struggles in one’s mind.”
